CODE OF ETHICS

INTRODUCTION

The Academy of Coaching is committed to fostering high standards of integrity and professional conduct among members of the coaching community, to protecting the safety and well-being of each coaching client and to providing exceptional coaching services through powerful coaching relationships.

We ask each participant, graduate and Certified Management Effectiveness Coach of The Academy of Coaching to adhere to our Code of Ethics:

RELATIONSHIP WITH CLIENTS

    1. I honor and respect the uniqueness of each individual, and I pledge to conduct myself with compassion, fairness, authenticity, honesty and personal responsibility.

    2. I will empower my clients to make choices that support their well-being and intentions, and will not influence them in any way to take actions that are contrary to their values, standards or personal boundaries.

    3. I will maintain strict confidentiality in my coaching relationships and will not share the content or existence of these relationships except when my client specifically authorizes it or when I am required by law to do so. I will obtain permission from each client before releasing their names as references.

    4. I will avoid conflicts of interest and give notice of potential conflicts. I will directly address any potential conflicts and will not engage in any coaching relationship in which there is, or appears to be, a conflict of interest unless all parties involved expressly agree to the relationship.

    5. I will only use my coaching relationship to further the intentions expressed in the coaching program agreed upon with my client.

    6. I will responsibly complete and disengage myself from any coaching relationship in which I find that I am not competent to serve my client.

PERSONAL INTEGRITY AND STANDARDS OF CONDUCT

    7. I will be responsible for having my life work, so that I am a demonstration of the possibility I coach others to attain.

    8. I am committed to doing what I said I would do, and to communicating honestly, authentically and responsibly when I do not.

    9. I will give full acknowledgment to the work and contributions of others. I will respect intellectual property rights and comply with applicable laws concerning their protection.

    10. I will not misrepresent my qualifications, expertise or experience as a coach. I will not offer professional information or advice I know to be confidential, misleading, or for which the accuracy is beyond my competence to assess.

    11. I pledge to conduct myself responsibly with the highest degree of integrity and accountability.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

    12. I pledge to pursue my development as a professional coach by making a commitment to my own personal growth and exploration and by maintaining a mutually empowering professional relationship with members of the coaching community.

RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHER COACHES

    13. I will actively seek the support of my peers in upholding my ethics, reviewing my work and improving my competence as a coach.
